Dual Enrollment

Georgia’s dual enrollment program allows high school students to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma.  The program was signed into law on April 20, 2015, became effective July 1, 2015 (Fiscal Year 2016) and began serving students in the fall of 2015.

As of November 2017, Glascock County Consolidated School has 33 students in the program.  Our school system ranks 8th in the state (out of 180 districts) for the highest percentage of students enrolled in DE classwork.  GCCS partners with both East Georgia State College and Oconee Fall Line Technical College to provide post-secondary classes for students at the Warren County Career Academy.  Students have access to technical program courses, as well as core college classes.  Transportation is provided daily to the Career Academy.    

The new law streamlined the previous dual enrollment options (Move On When Ready, Accel, and HOPE Grant) into one program with one funding source.  By consolidating the programs into a single program, it is easier for students and parents to navigate and take advantage of the available options to enroll in college courses while still in high school.  DE includes provisions to help remove some of the financial barriers that may prevent students from participating in a dual enrollment program.

Dual Enrollment program is administered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC).  If your student has a account, ALL of the important applications and documents for DE are available there.  GCCS also provide DE information to each eighth-grade student when they begin developing their individual graduation plan as required by O.C.G.A. 20-2-327.

In order to qualify as a DE participant, all private and public high schools and home study programs within the state of Georgia who operate pursuant to O.C.G.A. §20-2-690(c) must execute a High School/Home Study Program Participation Agreement.   Glascock County School has prepared the necessary documentation to allow our students full access to this program.
